They call it Himachal’s Best Kept Secret: Tirthan Valley

Would you like to know what does waking up in the lush of pine trees in this quiet village feels like? It’s the invaluable sense of calm and fulfillment that keeps you put in the Tirthan valley of Himachal Pradesh.

This valley is the gateway to the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), which is a newly identified UNESCO world heritage site. The natural haven has a variety of adventures to offer such as trekking, fishing, wildlife watching, nature walks, camping under the stars and a lot more.

A Dream came to Life in Tirthan Valley in Himachal

The picturesque valley has several whimsical hamlets along the river stretch, with Gushaini (8kms from GHNP) and Nagini being the most popular stay options. The Tirthan River spans across the lushest of forests in the western Himalayas, before its culmination at the Beas River at Larji.

The gigantic verdant mountains of the valley are a vantage point for bird lovers. One can take extensive walks across the alpine meadows.

The area offers a sweeping land for campers, covered with deodar and oak trees. In the Great Himalayan National Park reside over 375 fauna species, 181 species of birds and 31 species of mammals.

Completing a 6 kilometers hike from the Jalori pass, we have Serloskar Lake of Tirthan Valley in Himachal, surrounding the Buddhi Nagin Temple, which is believed to inhabit the lake and is highly venerated by the local people. The hike is at a comfortable altitude and will take you through beautiful successions of cedar and oak trees.

Tirthan Valley of Himachal has a cozy rustic homestay to offer which is a tourist attraction in itself. Raju’s guesthouse in Gushaini is an olde worlde wooden building, perched in fruit orchids. The waterfront hillbilly house is reached after crossing the Tirthan River through a wire pulley, checking the adventure quotient right there!

To discover the hidden waterfall in the Tirthan Valley in Himachal, you would have to embark on a hike from Rolla Village. Once you reach there, you will see all your efforts coming to fruition.

The government-protect Tirthan River has been declared an angling reserve, as it is home to a huge population of brown and rainbow trout. The government has decided not to take up any hydro-projects over the river to preserve the rich biodiversity of the area. Kudos to that!

Seaside camping on the shores of Serloskar and Parashar lakes, under the starring sky is something you cannot miss. The bonfires, the music and the dance to the sound of waters would be an elevating experience for families, friends and solo travelers as well.

Fifty kilometers ahead of the Tirthan Valley in Himachal, we come across a Shangarh, a snuggled treasure that can be reached after crossing Larji, Sainji, Neuli and Ropa. The charming meadow is sure to capture your heart.

According to the legend, the site was made by the Pandava brothers of Mahabharata, who chosen to build the staircase to heaven. Well, let’s just say that those brothers did have a sense of aesthetics when it came down to locations.

I am ready to leave but when?

Though the weather is pleasant and nice throughout the year, the place does glow in the months of March to May. With the spring blooming, the place is full of apple orchards.

We do not mean to scare you but the winters of Tirthan Valley in Himachal do get pretty cold and the place is open to wildlife interference as the mountain peaks are covered with snow and there is no food up there. Leopards and bears can descend to the valley in search of food.

With all of that being said, we hope you find the lesser-explored Tirthan Valley in Himachal, just the right place to unload everything that doesn’t serve you. Take back all the love and calm the place has to offer!
