Undisturbed by even the Act of Gods, Telangana’s Ramappa temple is indeed a beauty like no other. Conferred with a World Heritage inscription on Sunday, Telangana’s Ramappa Temple, is now the 39th World Heritage Site of India. At the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO, they came up with this decision. For the year 2019, Ramappa temple was India’s only nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage site tag.

- Construction:
During the Kakatiya Empire, the temple was constructed by Recharla Rudra, a general of Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva, in 1213 AD.
- Presiding Deity:
Ramalingeswara Swamy is the presiding deity of the temple.
- Origin of it’s name:
Named after Ramappa, the temple’s chief sculptor, represents the art of it’s creator very well. As per government website, this is probably the only temple in the country to be known by the name of its sculptor,
- The temple can float:
The temple is built with bricks that are so light that they can float on water. The bricks used in the construction of this Temple were believed to be made spongy in nature using something like saw-dust!
- Time of completion:
According to the Telangana government’s website, it took nearly 40 years to complete the temple!
- Structural beauty:
Standing on a 6-feet high star-shaped platform accompanied by walls, pillars and ceilings engraved with intricate carvings which beauty the temple as the hallmarks of the Kakatiya sculptors.
- The carvings:
Carvings, mythical animals, female dancers are the unforgettable masterpieces of Kakatiya art.
- Inamoratos:
European merchants and travelers have always been fascinated and mesmerized by the beauty of the temple, one such traveler had remarked that the temple was the “brightest star in the galaxy of medieval temples of the Deccan”, the PIB release said.
- Entrance:
Nandi vigraham is at the entrance of the temple.
- Undisturbed by the act of God:
During the 17th century temple is claimed to have survived a major earthquake!
