Of 3.7 lakh tourists from India to Australia, more than 35,800 were from Karnataka, making the South Indian state the third-largest market in the country for Australian tourism. The first two spots are held by Maharashtra and Delhi, respectively. Punjab and Tamil Nadu follow Karnataka in total number of tourists traveling to the land of Kangaroos.
The Australian tourism department data of the year 2018-19 also revealed that the number of tourists coming from Karnataka is expected to reach half a million by the year 2020 and one million by the next 5 years. India is one of the fastest-growing countries for tourism in Australia. There is an 11% rise in inbound travel in 2018-19 from the previous year.
In June this year, the number of people visiting Australia from India were about 35,000, which is a 17.5% growth as compared to the same period of 2018.
Tourism Australia’s India and Gulf country Manager, Nishant Kashikar said, “Today, India is the eighth largest inbound market for tourists in Australia and the sixth-largest in terms of spend. Australia, in 2020, is gearing up to welcome cricket enthusiasts from around the globe to the ICC T20 World Cup for both Men and Women, which will be held across eight cities. With India being a cricket-loving nation, we are undertaking a number of initiatives to manage the expected increase in visitors.”
According to Australian tourism officials, there will soon be direct flights between Bengaluru and Australia. They are discussing with several airlines in order to bring this idea to the fore. Directs flights to the Oceania country are only operated from Delhi.
