The number of Indian tourists visiting Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, went up by 66.8% as per the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB). It launched the “Take Another Look” campaign in India in 2018 and other marketing campaigns for boosting tourism. The increased curiosity of Indians to explore the less-known destinations made the campaign successful.
As per the UN World Tourism Organisation, over 50 million Indians travelled overseas in 2019 which was 23 million in 2017. Florian Sengstschmid, CEO, Azerbaijan Tourism Board, stated, “We have had an extremely successful year since we launched ‘Take Another Look’ in India. Our global marketing and communications campaign, paired with extensive in-market engagement and investment in tourism infrastructure has driven visitor numbers from India and beyond – reaffirming that Azerbaijan has truly arrived as a preferred destination in this region.”
Azerbaijan is considering India as a key market as a lot of Indians fly international and observed their interest for the Caucasus region. ATB has invested a huge amount to build new product portfolio such as skiing, hiking, private jeep tours to the mountains and other cultural places.
There is a range of family-friendly resorts and various entertainment zones across the Nation. It is attracting people from across the globe for wedding and leisure purposes. ATB is also planning to set up new visitor centres at different and unique sites like mud volcanoes site.
Its Tourism Board is contributing efforts for a three-city roadshow across Delhi, Ahmadabad and Mumbai, with an aim to connect with airlines and tour operators in the country.
ATB is also working on a film policy to encourage and support the Indian film industry by providing infrastructure and tax rebates in the region.
